Traditionally, many advertisers turn to Google to utilize paid search listings as well as to be listed on the content network. However, with the advent of new technologies, businesses, especially local ones, can utilize Google to advertise in other methods. All of these methods are great ways to stay ahead of the competition and bring in more clients.

Mobile Device Advertising:

With the advent of smart phones such as the Blackberry, iPhone, webOS, and Google’s Android, more and more people are searching for local business with their handheld phones. This is great news as the people searching for your product while on the road are much more qualified than the person searching from home. The problem is, however, many Google advertisers do not have their campaigns set to run on mobile devices. If you are interested in advertising on these devices make sure to edit your settings in your campaign to show on these devices. It is also very wise to create separate campaigns so that you can target your ad context for those on the road.

Google Local Business Ads:

This is one of the most simple and cost effective ways to start advertising your company on Google maps. All one has to do is register with the Google Local Business center and their ad will start appearing in results. However, just like anything else these ads will need to be optimized so that you beat out your competitors.

YouTube:

To the delight of few, Google now has advertisements on YouTube videos. As both an avid youtube watcher and online advertiser, I am torn with this new option. However, it really is a great way to get your message out to your targeted audience. To get going, create a new campaign and new adgroup. From there, select your placement option as InVideo ads and what category you wish to advertise in and in no time your business will appear on the latest video of a some kid getting hit with a dodgeball. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCcS-cfgPDA (Not that we ever promote kids getting hurt, but it sure is an entertaining video!)

Click to Call:

This is a relatively old technology that Google has just released for its mobile advertisers. While my opinion on the option differs from client to client it is a good way reduce that extra step your potential client has to take before calling your business. Like most of the other options this can be turned on under settings at the campaign level. Once turned on your phone number will appear in your ad and searchers will call your business directly. Once clicked you will still be charge for this as a click just as you would a normal click to your site.
As Google grows and new technology develops, advertisers will continue to have multiple ways of promoting their business on the Google network. Need help optimizing your Google Adwords campaign? Contact us today for a free consultation!
